an invitation to listen...

The intent of the Living Library Project is to bring magnificent, breathing, walking human "books" to share their stories with students. This sharing of stories encourages one-on-one learning about others with different beliefs and lifestyles and helps to break down prejudices and judgments that students might hold toward others with different upbringings and different cultures.

There is an inherent listening -- a true listening, and an inherent respect held for those who reveal their struggles and their joys, their failures and achievements. Not only does the Living Library bring back the beautiful sharing of the oral tradition itself, where we create a strong and lasting community by becoming a part of each other's stories, but it also makes a true legacy of those who teach and share.

an invitation to write...

English students who write each of these guests’ biographies are able to practice the following of a narrative, the chronology of life events, and the life lessons and teachings attained by listening to personal stories told by elders. Students will eventually create a bookwork to share these tales of guest speakers.
